He Makana No Ka'u...

Herb Kane painted a large mural for the people of Ka'u. For all the people of Hawai`i. In 1973, the 20 foot mural was painted with much research, effort, skill, sweat and aloha. Twenty feet long at the now dilapidated Ka'u History and Culture Center. It withstood the test of time. Remaining relatively pristine when everything around crumbled and decayed. Kane even had an 'uhane in the form of an old woman visit him while painting. The beautiful work remained as a testament to the loving remembrance of the ancestors, the kupuna, the history of Punalu'u. Awaiting the reawakening of the spirit, the culture, the education of the keiki. Recently, thieves took a circular saw to the art and cut it up and stole it. Mahalo no for your aloha thieves. Your giving spirit. Your contributions to the well-being of our people. Your genuine thieving concern for the life of the land. Perpetuated in your Righteousness. Good job...
