Isolation...


I noticed that when I visited the homeless at Ma`ili Beach Park, that the tent city almost resembled the various pili thatched kauhale which lined the shores of the islands in early drawings of the 19th century. Some of the houseless residents described very open and loving communities of kanaka who watch out for each other, interact, share meals and kukakuka about many things in life. Some of us now living in the modern world have become prisoners of our own doing for the sake of convenience and security. What true magic in life of the interacting human spirit have we given up in our quests for advancement and "comfort"? What would our kupuna think about our choice of habitable isolation of not only our kino, but our 'uhane as well...
