Overwhelming...



I stumbled across some newswire photos of the Chinese earthquake while browsing the Internet. The photos were graphic. Little feet, legs, hands and arms sticking out of tons of cement slabs. Little crushed bodies. Parents holding all that was left of their children who left for school that morning with glowing happy beautiful faces full of all the promise of life. A hopeful and better future. The dreams and purpose of a parent's life. Through the portal at the Chinese cemetery in Manoa Valley, I humbly ask my Chinese ancestors to do what they can to help to comfort so many people in worse hardship and loss than is even imaginable. I can't view any more pictures because the sorrow which descends upon me is an overwhelming blackness of profound pain. Tears well up and flood so freely. Fortunately, my boys have learned that it is nothing to be alarmed at. That is just the way Dad is. There are some things, Ke Akua, I will never understand. Maybe I am never supposed to...
