Rosy...

Image
Rosy cheeks waiting for the beautiful blessed joy of Christmas and the spirit of selfless giving...

Imagination...

Image
I am glad I took this photo of the famous fried ice cream at Compadres. The restaurant closed down and alas, I may never taste this heavenly concoction again for the rest of my days. But since I have a picture, I can remind myself of the sweet tastes and scrumptious textures which sent my brain into euphoria. Kind of like our first kiss. I remember it in excruciating detail. But I don't have a photo of it. So I am not sure it really happened. And since I have no proof. I might just be imagining it...

Preparedness...

Image
I took the boys to Walmart to the silk flower section. They picked up loose rubber grapes which had fallen off of the fake bunch of grapes and attached them to their face with a little suction. I am preparing them for the horrors of high school acne when a tiny blemish feels like a giant grape when they walk past the girls in the hallway...

Practice...

Image
Koa is practicing to be a lawyer or car salesman...

Dress...

Image
I like it when people move to Hawai'i and retain the style of dress of their homeland. That is very cool...

Elvis...

Image
I took a picture of the Elvis Memorial at the Civic Center for all the Elvis fans around the world who will unfortunately never make it to Hawai'i to see it in person. I try to help the world in that way. One statue at a time...

Rule...

Image
A good rule of thumb in Hawai'i is to treat all rocks with respect. Whether they have a face carved into them or not. The most powerful ones look the most ordinary and unassuming. In my humble experience...

Growing...

Image
The fissure has definitely gotten much larger...

Taro Pie...

Image
We go for the taro pie. At least Koa does. Elliott still likes the apple pie. Daddy goes for the salad...

Secrets...

Image
She knows the secrets to a love that lasts a lifetime. But she isn't telling. That would be too easy. She wants us to find out for ourselves. And that is half the fun...

Unison...

Image
Students from the awesome Kanu o ka 'Aina Charter School, based in Waimea on Hawai'i Island, practice their hula at Kilauea Volcano Military Camp...

Castle...

Image
Castle High School Marching band gave their very best in the Aloha Festivals Parade. It was a blistering hot day too...

Workshop...

Image
Kind of like "Build a Bear Workshop." Build a truck workshop...

Perfect Smile...

Image
Looks like the tooth fairy will be busy...

All Over...

Image
They come from all over. I spy a brother and sister...

Color...

Image
Nothing lifts the spirits more on an overcast cloudy rainy day than a splash of color. Or a wave of hue...

Mo'o...

Image
About four years ago. I attended an island burial council meeting on Moku o Keawe. The meeting was at the Kona Outdoor Circle building and was pretty well attended. As I was sitting towards the back of the room, and on the lanai. A normally reclusive day gecko scurried across the lanai and up my briefcase and down my arm and sat perched on my hand observing the proceedings. I looked at her pretty incredulously. Others around gave me funny looks. I don't know what it meant. But it was awesome...

A Lot...

Image
I have been thinking a lot about my favorite subject in life...

Exposed...

Image
They may shade you from the Sun. But they can't shade you from me. I can be brighter than the Sun. When I choose to...

Comfort...

Image
The most comfortable pillow in the Universe, to rest your head, heart, and soul upon, is the lap of someone you love. It is how I want to leave this world...

Nowhere...

Image
When I look back in life. Pouting, fretting, and sulking got me absolutely nowhere. It just burned up precious time in a life which is really too short to begin with. Absolutely nowhere...

Help...

Image
Sometimes you need a little extra help to keep that other eye closed...

Trendsetter...

Image
Somewhere in history. A woman made the solo decision to ask her tattoo artist to put a tattoo in the small of her back. Knowing she couldn't see it. Only her man. And the rest of the world. The result is that she made herstory...

Peace...

Image
Peace for the world. What a beautiful wish...

This Chihuahua leads a meaningful productive life even with one tiny front leg...

Hilo Oceanfront...

It was a nice day to soak up the Sun with friends or just hang out and catch up on your favorite book...

Rising...

Image
The ocean is rising. Waikiki will never be the same. Never. Enjoy it while you can...

Asking...

Image
Just asking to be tickled. Just asking for it...

Habits...

Image
If you go down the basic necessities of mankind. Food. Water. Shelter. Love. Etc. Babies learn pretty quickly how to stuff food or anything slightly edible into their mouth to survive. As we grow older. We learn how to discriminate what we hastily ingest. Unfortunately, some of us learn to put even more hazardous materials into our bodies out of emotionally driven necessity. And still others perfect the art of stuffing and inhaling their food, healthy or not. And then there is that special class of people who can stuff and inhale unhealthy fare, seemingly to no end. And incredibly, still walk among us...

Flying Rats...

Image
I took this picture of a stuffed flying squirrel at the Natural History Museum in Denver, Colorado, when I was visiting there. In Hawai'i, we have giant cockroaches which fly around and sometimes land on your head, arm, or back. It terrifies many people. If we had flying squirrels too. People would think rats were flying out of the trees at you. Now that would really freak some people out...
