Divided Attention...

Image
Let's see now. Four people looking at dad's camera. Five people looking at the other guy's camera. Three people looking in the opposite direction. One woman daydreaming and lost in thought. I think we need to retake the shot. Maybe with a talking sock-monkey puppet to really hold people's attention...

Dreaded...

Image
I gave this poor man a comb and a bottle of Johnson & Johnson "No More Tangles and No More Tears" baby shampoo. God teaches me to look out for the well-being of my fellow man. I really enjoy it...

Designer...

Image
This woman's sunglasses say Anna Sui on the rim. I am not sure if Anna Sui is a designer brand or if this woman personalized her glasses with her name which is Anna Sui. Or if this woman is the designer Anna Sui wearing her own designer glasses which are personalized with her name. Or maybe she just happened to also be named Anna Sui and just has the same name as the name on her glasses. Oh...nevermind. This is getting ridiculous...

Peripheral...

Image
Hmmmm...I may revise my theory on females having keener and more expansive peripheral vision than males. I need more in the field clinical testing...

Smiles...

Image
The most powerful and universal way to show another human being caring, love, kindness and a human connection. A simple smile. Yet some people use it so sparingly as if they were hoarding a scarce treasure for themselves. They don't understand that the more you share this treasure. The bigger and more valuable it becomes...

Mind's Eye...

Image
Sometimes the next best thing to being there and seeing it for yourself is to have someone vividly describe it over the phone as they are experiencing it in real time. Don't underestimate the imagination's ability to envision magnificence. Sometimes it is more beautiful than the real thing...

Sound...

Image
The soundest sleep you will ever have is in the arms of someone you love. And someone who loves you as well. More than life itself...

Inheritance...

Image
The meek shall inherit the Earth. And I intend to leave something both livable and meaningful...

Ke Akua...

Image
I honestly don't know what else to say other than thank you. And I love you too...

Down Under...

Image
Opal opulence...

Helpful...

Image
Whenever I see a student driver, I tailgate them for awhile then pass them dangerously close. Then I cut right in front of them without signaling. And then step on my brakes suddenly. Just doing my part to help them learn how to drive better. I bet their driving instructors appreciate my assistance. The world needs more unsolicited altruistic acts of random kindness...

Hot...

Image
Still hot. Chewy. Delicious...

Dad...

Image
Here is Dad when he used to ride his motorcycle and work in a parking lot. I explained to him that he won't build a nice body for the ladies by sitting on the barbell. He needs to lift it up and down. I try to help my dad with good advice as a good caring son...

Focused...

Image
Everything around me fades into a blur when I see you. Your eyes are a portal. Drawing me spiraling in where I hopelessly surrender with wanton abandon to your overpowering presence. Lost to the rest of my meaningless world. And when we kiss...your cold nose shocks me awake...

Salvation...

Image
I see hope. I see forgiveness. I see everlasting love. I see salvation. I also see a nice little earring...

Grammar...

Image
Man is a noun. Sometimes a proper noun. All too often a possessive noun. Trust me...

Retreat...

Image
When life gets too loud and overwhelming. Cover your ears. Or quiet down your world and momentarily retreat into the solace of your own mind. It is called meditation. And you can never be too young to practice it...

Pacifist...

Image
Binky in mouth. Momentarily pacified. I know the look. Wheels turning. Gears crunching. Any second now. Little boy mayhem. Don't be fooled...

Separation...

Image
If you have to be separated from someone you love. Hearing their voice is the next best thing...

Illuminated...

Image
Many things are more beautiful in life when illuminated with a soft glow. That goes for illuminated and enlightened human beings too...

Clean...

Image
It was zany Koa's turn to get clean. Ever since I broke the metacarpals in my right hand last Wednesday, it has been hard to function normally. I took much for granted having full use of both hands. Never again...

Display...

Image
I don't mind public displays of affection. Like kissing. If done in good taste...

Perspective...

Image
I constantly remind myself that everyone has a different perspective and interpretation in life of the same scene...

Health...

Image
If you jealously guard your health as much as your heart, you can have a long productive life lived full to the very end...

Koa...

Image
Hawaiian acacia wood. Too beautiful for its own good. One of the few things in life that can appear more beautiful and is more coveted in death...

Style...

Image
Nice style. Classic lines. I am certainly no vintage car expert but my guess would be a Triumph. No. Maybe an Austin-Healy. No. Hmmm...fender skirts. I think a Triumph. Always go with your first gut instinct...

Wonders...

Image
As we travel throughout this beautiful magical world. We share the magnificent wonders of God's incredible creations. And of all the wonders of this Heavenly world. I have the most wondrous beautiful creation, which is my whole world, next to me. Right here in my arms...

Keeper...

Image
I grew up for three years in the city of brotherly love. Kindergarten in Philadelphia. I learned that I am not my brother's keeper. I am his savior. And he is mine...

Chick Magnet...

Image
For sale by owner. Low mileage. Breeze to drive. Custom paint and interior. Off-road capability. Head turner. Recently one of the hottest rides around burning up the town. Engine rocks! Literally...

We Will...

Image
Obama. A new age. Koa was excited about Obama's "eggnogration." Elliott proudly corrected him. It was Obama's "ignoration." I corrected them both. Inauguration. There is power in the spoken word, Hawaiians believe. And we want to give President Obama all the power he needs to bring light back to the world on the eve of the dark ages. It can"t just be yes we can. It must be yes we will...

Happy...

Image
A beautiful happy couple...

Ahu...

Image
Heap. Altar...

Rage...

Image
So deeply embedded and buried away. Origins suspected but truly unknown. Erupting. Perennially smiling. Laughing. Licking your face. Wagging my tail. Poke me with a stick. I bark. Poke my heart. In an uncontrollable moment. I go for your throat to fiercely protect what I love. Hurting not only myself. But all I cherish. Forgive me my sons for bearing terrifying witness. Forgive me Ke Akua. I am only human seems hardly an excuse anymore. I have no excuses. I am not a dog...

The Look...

Image
I taught my boys that this look from a girl, when trying to engage her, is a bad sign and they need to move on to the next one. After trying a few more times of course. Then move on. Well, maybe come back and try one last time...

Proud...

Image
The boys did a wonderful job of leading the Hawaiian march in Waikiki by blowing the 'ohe pu (bamboo instrument) and pu (conch), despite their shyness and nerves. They helped to kahea, or call, the ancestors to be present with the living to bear witness to the event and to provide spiritual support and guidance during hard and trying times. Big mahalo to bruddah Blaine for capturing an important and special memory for us. I am so truly proud of everyone. Especially them...

Pizazz...

Image
A simple way to add pizazz to an ordinary photo is to have the subjects look in different directions. Photo secret tip number 437...

Japan...

Image
My guest photographer from Japan, Yuko, sent me two of her recent photos. One is of the tradition of getting up early to see the sunrise of the New Year. She snapped a beautiful photo of it. Then she turned around and she caught the early morning surfers catching the first waves of the New Year. Although the waves weren't on the Hawai'i winter scale of the North Shore. With majestic Mount Fuji looming in the background...it looks awesome! Thank you my friend for sharing some Aloha all the way from the Far East...you rock girl...

Happiness...

Image
I think the secret to happiness all life long. Is to never take off your rose-colored glasses. Believe in Cinderella. And wish upon as many stars as you can....

Clean...

Image
The boys wanted a bubble bath. I obliged...

Enlightened...

Image
A lot of visitors in Waikiki were asking questions. That is good...
