The ala loa. The long trail around the coast of the island. Across the jagged a'a lava which would shred your foot into a bloody mess. Our kupuna labored to carry in flat smooth waterworn stones for miles and miles to make the journey bearable for all. We protect our trails. We don't walk in the footsteps of our unseen ancestors. We walk alongside them and amongst them. When you are touched by one of your kupuna. You never forget. Unseen. Usually. Unfelt. Never...
