Kaumaha Nui...

As we begin our Aloha United Way campaign at work. I decided to go out into the night after the boys went to sleep as a stark reminder of just how many people are without any type of substantive shelter. As I drove around the city, I couldn't believe how many doorways, dark recesses and hard cold concrete sidewalks had warm human bodies lying in or on them. Some were covered with sheets like bodies in a morgue. Probably not caring if they were dead. At one point, I saw so many people at every turn, I broke down in tears. It is a stark reminder for me. It doesn't matter where they came from. It doesn't matter what their horrible story is. All that matters is that they are my brothers and sisters. Ke Akua's children. And everyone deserves a warm safe place to lay down before they close their eyes for the very last time...

Those mainland cities should be ashamed of giving their homeless one-way airline tickets to Hawaii...cheaper for Chicago to pay for a 1-way $400 tocket to Hawaii than pay thousands every year to take care of their citizens...big shame for the mainland cities...and more kaumaha for Hawaii...SAD

Aloha no e Kaleo! Good to see you and hear from you again. Mahalo for your aloha...e holomua kakou no na mamo...and I agree Anonymous that many cities send their homeless to Hawaii. We have enough of a struggle with our Native Hawaiians living on the beaches and in their cars...k
