Limu...

I finally finished the video I was making for a beneficiary to show the precious resource of limu, or seaweed, which is being threatened by development of a marina. The limu, or limua, is a sacred embodiment of Ke Akua and found in the Hawaiian creation chant Kumulipo as a genesis resource. I came into the office last night to finish it. Parts were emotional. And spiritual. Someone was present in my office and moving my blinds around behind me while I worked. I didn't know who but I suspected the deceased kupuna whom the video was dedicated to. It was comforting.

I had stayed home during the day to recover my spent energy to stave off sickness. It worked. When the boys came home from school yesterday. It was a surprise to have Dad waiting at home so early. Koa came rushing into the bedroom screaming "Dad! Dad! Daddy!" and then yelled "I love you!" at the top of his voice and jumped up into my arms. Hawaiians call that 'a'a and it was the most beautiful sound to my ears and soul. It cured me of any sickness for sure. One small moment in life can make all the years in a lifetime worth it.

Tonight, I fixed a few audio glitches and mixed down the final edit of the 30-minute video. There was a sense of achievement having spent a lot of hours piecing it together to tell the important story. To top it all off. When I dropped my co-worker off at this car. We were momentarily overcome with the pungent smell of limu in my car. We both were amazed. It was the presence of Ke Akua and the kupuna to let us know that we did our best. And our best was all they wanted. Mahalo no e Ke Akua. Mahalo no e na kupuna...
