Change...
A beautiful large upright pohaku located at One'ula. This picture was taken in 1998. The stone was five feet high and seemingly much larger than a usual Ku'ula stone. I believe it may have been the legendary Pohaku o Lanai known to be located in the area. A kanaka raised in the area by his great-grandmother remembers her taking him and his siblings out to the various pohaku in the area. The grandmother would place the children's fingers into the holes in the pohaku and talk to the rocks. The stone is nowhere to be found today, probably destroyed and used for fill. I think about Nana Veary's beautiful mo'olelo...Change We Must. We must change...and stop destroying what little of our kupuna's legacy we have left...for na mamo...the future...
