Tonight I reflected upon 'ohana...
As I peered closely at the fine cuts of the i'e kuku kauila...
Passed down within the 'ohana...
From the land of Kamehameha...
A pattern created a thousand years ago...
To lovingly clothe a Nation...
Intricately and precisely carved with the shark tooth...
Cuts and scars of 'ike Hawai'i...
And I thought of my great-great-great-great grandmother...
Kamanō of Kaua'i...
And her cuts and scars...
And when I quiet my heart and mind...
I can faintly hear...

The Niuhi has awoken...
