As I was leaving the Cultural Conference on Kaua'i where heavy mana'o was shared and the 'uhane of our kupuna made their presence known, I saw a ho'ailona. A spiritual message in the sky. I was headed back to Lihu'e from Koloa to catch my flight. I saw a kupuna in the sky and stopped the car to document the signs. I knew this was going to be an important one...
I try not to capture ho'ailona with my camera because many are not meant to be shared and it can truly take away from the experience of being fully immersed in the moment by being distracted by composing the shots, focusing and all. I clearly saw eyes, nose, brow, mouth, lips, chin and beard facing up towards Ke Akua...
Then the chin and beard morphed and I saw a mo'o. A lizard akua emerging...
Just as the mo'o emerged and opened her mouth wide. The opposite side started to form into a face too...
I recognized it as the crown of thorns on the elongated face of Jesus. More like the image from the Shroud of Turin. The mo'o continued to form with mouth wide open and eyes forming...
As the face on the left dissipated. Another face formed looking at me just under the mo'o who started to form teeth...
The end of the ho'ailona before it all quickly dissipated into nothingness. The pictures don't really capture the merging shadows and interplay of light which from my angle on the ground and the distance I was at, truly looked miraculous. As for the message. It has to do with faith. Ke Akua. Jesus. Loving things Hawaiian. My female mo'o protector from my kulaiwi Kaua'i. And lots of other cool things which I probably shouldn't talk about right now. Maybe later...
