Survivor...
On June 4, 1822, while touring Molokai and Hawai'i Island to find and burn ki'i, Ka'ahumanu, Kaumuali'i and others in the retinue burned a Kalaipahoa of Kamehameha as well as nine other idols. On June 24, 1822, seven more were found and also burned. Two days later, 102 ki'i were committed to the flames of oblivion. Here we have a beautiful survivor. She remains ever so strong. We contemplate so much of our past, present and future while gazing at her defiant face. Wanting to know more about her. Wanting to know more about us. Ke Akua helped her survive. For all of us. And somewhere in the spiritual dimension, mihi, huikala, and redemption reigns supreme as Ka'ahumanu also rejoices in her having survived the harrowing flames of her own edicts and kauoha of destruction. Now we put the pieces back together again and in doing so, we emerge into the reawakening of not only ourselves, but our collective Divinity, and the promises of a whole new World for the children. Who would have ever known...
