Hō'ailona...

Today, our Lāhui came to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. They brought kūpuna, mākua, 'ōpio and keiki. They brought Mana, Spirit and a Unified Voice.  It was Powerful. At one point, I lifted my camera up high to capture a wide-shot. When I checked the viewfinder to look at my angle, I noticed the entire group was covered in Mist. 

Because it was hot, I immediately checked the lens for fogging, but it was clear. I then popped the lens off and checked the backside of the lens, and it was clear too. The shots before this and after were all crisp and clear. I felt a wave of emotion shoot up through me which I had to quickly suppress lest I burst into tears. I knew the ancestors and akua had come. Showing themselves the way they often do. A Beautiful Modern Day Hō'ailona...

For the rest of the day, as I mentioned the capture to a few co-workers and friends, anxious to get home to see the larger photo, and not just in the camera viewfinder, I would get chicken-skin regardless of who I was telling the story too. Every single time I mentioned the Mist. Chicken skin. My confirmation from my own Spirit Guides. Humble Gratitude and Love for our Beloved Kūpuna...

Today was a Beautiful morning spent at Kamehameha Schools Midkiff Library for the World History Interfaith Conference with the Sophomore class. The students rotated to different stations to hear different religious leaders speak about their personal Faith. Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Baha'i Faith were all represented today. I was Blessed to have been able to participate in all five stations and listen to the expressions of Passion and Spirituality.  Before we commenced, I found myself standing next to a large five-foot by four-foot original painting by the late Master Artist Herb Kane of the Battle of the Nu'uanu Pali. I had always seen the smaller versions but to see the detail up close was awe inspiring and humbling. Herb's research and 'ike were astounding. I absorbed every detail. The faces. The mahiole. Not Quite Potatoes...

My boys thought these were potatoes and asked me why they were all stuck together. I explained to them that they were Hasu, also known as Lotus Root. And that they were $2.28 a pound. Regularly $3.49 a pound. And that they were used for cooking and you could eat them. And they were brown. And a root. And a Lotus root. Oops, said that already. Actually I knew nothing about them but I read the sign and bluffed as much as I could because as a Daddy, you want your kids to think you know about everything in the world so they feel safe and secure.
