Mana Nui...

I have some paʻakai, or sea salt, from Hanapepe, Kauaʻi, where the ʻohana have been making sea salt for generations throughout the centuries. The late Helen Kaneakua, a beautiful kupuna, provided the paʻakai. She used to add the new paʻakai to a container with paʻakai from her ancestors, mixing it together, never depleting the container so that the paʻakai was truly a perpetual mix of ancient and new. Salt, or paʻakai is very powerful in the spiritual world for cleansing. Mixed with the normally light colored sea salt is red colloidal ocherous earth called ʻAlaea. It is used for dye, medicine, and formally in the water purification ceremony known as hiʻuwai on the second night of the month known as Welehu.

This ʻalaea came from the opposite end of the island chain, Hawaiʻi Island. Moku o Keawe. And the ʻalaea from Moku o Keawe and the paʻakai from Kauaʻi was mixed together by a hulu kupuna, Kahuna Laʻau Lapaʻau Henry "Papa" Auwae, for a special iwi kupuna summit in 1998. Beloved Papa Auwae has since passed over to the other side. The spiritual union of Moku o Keawe and Manokalanipo makes for a very powerful spiritual elixir indeed. It is a mainstay in my arsenal to fight evil and blackness...
