Reflecting...

This photo was taken in the late 1990's when Kala'au Wahilani, Kana'i Kapeliela and I assisted National Park Superintendent Geri Bell with taking care of about 250 Native Hawaiian men, women, children, and infants who had been sitting in cardboard boxes for decades after being excavated from the area. It was one of the most spiritually rewarding and learning periods of my ten years at the Burial Sites Program. Many different representatives of park staff and 'ohana from the area worked together for three days to wrap, prepare, and put these beloved kupuna to rest in a cave. I will write up my recollections of the time to share the mo'olelo a little later as I reflect on this beautiful time...
