Hōʻailona...

I was sitting in my office the other day as the Sun was going down....and talking with my beautiful sister Nalani who is battling for her Life in Hilo Hospital. Stage 4 Cancer. Most likely headed to Hospice. I was sharing memories with her but she was so weak and exhausted. I did most of the talking. I honestly don't know how much, or how little, time she has left as the doctors have given her only months. I shared with her my deceased Mother's messages to her from the other side of the Spirit World. Shared with me by beautiful gifted friends with 'ike pāpā lua this past weekend. My Mother said to ease her fears. Let her release her worries. Forgive. Forgive her past. Forgive all of us. Forgive herself. Mother is waiting to receive her on the other side. As I closed out the heart-wrenching conversation to let her sleep and get her rest, I told her how much I truly loved her. How much she meant to me. How she helped save my life by staying with me in the hospital last

In 2010, a pohaku akua from Heiau Kāneiolouma on Kaua'i was gifted to Heiau Pu'ukoholā on Hawai'i Island. In 2013, four ki'i akua were gifted back from Moku o Keawe to Manokalanipo. The unification has begun. E hui ana nā moku. E k ū ana ka paia. E ho'oulu lāhui...

--> This past Thursday morning I was walking to work trying to keep up a solid pace to make it to my once-a-week hula practice at the office. I had spent the evening before at Queen’s Hospital visiting a dear friend and co-worker in Emergency and that, combined with other events of the day, led me to a restless night of serious reflection on my role and purpose in this World. I was questioning Ke Akua’s plans for me. I rarely have doubts but I let Ego drive my pity party instead of continuing to let my usually unbreakable Faith in Ke Akua soothe any heartaches. I quickly stopped by Walgreens on the way to work, and when I emerged from the store, a middle-aged man greeted me upon my exit. He immediately began asking me questions, in a rapid pace, while scratching his head, and darting his eyes between my eyes, the ground, and the sky. I immediately recognized this behavior as a form of Autism. I realized I was in the presence of a gifted individual. He had found s

Aloha...

Image
There have been some new laws and ordinances recently which target the homeless population on O'ahu. Despite the often devastating and draconian implementation of these laws and the horror stories shared about it...there are beautiful members of the Honolulu Police Department who have compassion and empathy, and who take a different approach to the less fortunate. They possess true Aloha. I truly thank you for your kindness...as do the kūpuna , painfully watching their struggling mo'opuna from above...

Trash...

Image
Today was a somber and sobering journey into the deep bushes to bear witness to the fringes of our society. The often hidden World of tents, tarps, trash bags filled with dirty clothes and scrap-plywood beds.  A village populated by shattered lives medicating broken dreams in little glass pipes and boiling spoons. A rough dirty World created from the salvaged trash of a Society that wantonly wastes and discards everything that is damaged or broken, including people...

Hōʻailona...

I woke up at 5:30 this morning to see the Blue Moon. Instead, I was greeted with a blood red Moon. I was taught that when the Moon is red, akua Pele is in her Moon form. Beautiful Hōʻailona...

Today was a beautiful day. Spent with co-workers and their families. I am forever grateful to my boss and my co-workers for giving me a reason to spend quality time with my two boys, in wanton abandon...and pure unadulterated joy...
