I met Uncle Solomon Apio. I am a big fan of his work as a wood, fiber and weaving artist. One of a handful of incredibly talented people I am aware of who graciously share their 'ike Hawai'i utilizing traditional Native Hawaiian resources and techniques. His 'umeke, 'auamo ki'i, and other works of art are amazing.

I humbly requested a simple photo with my two sons so they would remember this night long after I am gone. He asked me to wait and then went behind his display and took two of his centerpiece mahiole covered in feathers and readily put them on the boys' heads. Koa with the mahiole haka and Ka'iana with the mahiole hoaka.

I never expected such a spontaneous gesture of true Aloha using his priceless mea hana noe'au. Such a Beautiful Man. Although we just met, I love him immensely...
