Nothing...

Your whole world sits around you. And yet you have nothing. And we pass you all day long. It must be somebody else's responsibility to check on your well-being. A social worker. A state official. A policeman. Not me. We're not interested in your personal story of devastation. We have already judged you the minute we approached you. We put you in with all the others. We are too busy to stop and check in on you. You surely must have family who cares about you. It is their responsibility. Not ours. We avoid eye contact. We pretend you aren't there. You are a blight on our pretty city and landscaping. May God have mercy on you. No. May God have mercy on all of us. And forgive us for forsaking our brothers and sisters in need. We think you have nothing. When we truly lose our humanity. It is us who have nothing...
