Dressed...

My kiʻi is now dressed appropriately with malo groin covering and lei niho palaoa. He was in an excellent mood today. When he is angry, I leave him alone...

Huewai...

A beautiful huewai, or water gourd with coconut sennit netting and coral stopper. The pattern is made in the traditional way of cutting off the green skin in the lights parts and leaving the green skin on where you want the dark pattern to emerge. Tannin from Koa tree bark is put into the gourd and where the skin is left intact, the tannin canʻt evaporate and thus makes the darkened area. Ingenious...

Contemplate...

Looking deep inside is a wonderful experience...

Love Birds...

These birds at Koʻolau Pets in Windward Mall were parakeets, not lovebirds. But you certainly wouldnʻt know the difference with all the kissing, nibbling, nestling, and longing looks they were giving each other. Oblivious to the outside world I might add...

Vicarious...

Fun Factory is fun and exciting. Even if you are too small to play anything...

Pohaku...

Part of the Great Wall at Honaunau on Moku o Keawe. I spy many things. Including the head of the Niuhi, or man eating shark. Great White to be exact with the black eye of death...

Ke Akua...

I had the feeling Ke Akua was watching me very closely the other day. I have been thinking not so very kind thoughts lately...

Cheap...

Cheap cardboard Tombstone Pizza. Adding a little extra pepperoni and mozzarella cheese makes it taste pretty good and palatable for the boys...

Kanaka...

Extreme makeover. Hawaiian style...

Beautiful...

Elliott practicing his violin. You donʻt know how beautiful the sound of his playing is to my soul. One day, I know he will play a profound piece with such emotive finesse, that I will gladly pour forth immense tears...

Form...

Dad shows that the simple beautiful hands of a woman can become a beautiful ephemeral work of art...

Kanaka ʻOiwi...

Bruddah Keale. Always smiling. Such a beautiful spirit. I had to tell him to look serious. If only for a brief fleeting moment...

Beautiful...

Kamoa made some beautiful ʻohe pu and ʻohe hanu iho, or nose flutes. He stamps them with his own designs which have kaona, or hidden deeper meaning like piko, the moʻo scales, kalo, and other Hawaiian motifs...

Perfect...

The water at Pokaʻi Bay was perfect on a hot beautiful Hawaiian day...

Collateral Damage...

Koa quickly learned that the ice cold spray of the shower water at the beach and a quick dog shake made for lots of excitement at Pokaʻi Bay...

Ua Hala...

Hala. To pass. Elapse. To pass away. Die. This pandanus, or hala tree certainly has passed. Ua hala...

Hoa Aloha...

Beautiful hulu kupuna Pops Kamakakehau Fujishiro and Kahu Tom Lenchanko. Mahalo for sharing the day with me. Mahalo for sharing your ʻike Hawaiʻi. Your manaʻo pono. I am truly proud to be on this journey, in this life, at this time, with incredible kanaka ʻoiwi like you...

Kamanaʻo...

My beautiful kanaka ʻoiwi hoa aloha, Kamanaʻo. He has been increasingly spending time in the powerful ocean. We spent years together working on some of the most intense spiritual missions full of kaumaha and ʻeha protecting the precious remains of our beloved kupuna. He has really blossomed lately. Truly talented. His friend captured his love of the ocean in a beautiful way. Aloha pumehana my brother. I am proud to know you...

Healing...

If your doll is not feeling well. I believe in faith healing...

Memory...

Dad sent me a photo of me when I was small at a beach along the Waiʻanae Coast. I try to remember that day, laying there. But I canʻt. As hard as I try. But I know it happened. Because of my dadʻs photo. Thatʻs why I take pictures of my boys. To help them remember. I was so small and skinny. I think I was eating the fresh bowl of sand soup in front of me...

Love...

Dad caught a beautiful couple in love at the Volcano. I can just feel the intense euphoric desire...

Ho'ailona...

I saw a simple sign in the sky today. While I was driving with an awesome warrior from Kaua'i. It was a simple reminder to me, with the Roman nose, to not forget the multitude of ancestors I have on the European side. Good formation too. Forehead. Eyes. Brow. Pupils. Nose. Nostrils. Mouth. Lips. Teeth. Jowls. Jawline. Awesome!

Dinner...

Koa enjoying his dinner and a little television. I have seen this scene 100's of times. But I am always amazed and humbled at the blessings of my beautiful sons, the abundance of food, and Cartoon Network...

Beautiful...

Yesterday's sunset was truly beautiful. The presence of Ke Akua's unconditional love and forgiveness pervaded the onset of twilight...

Korean Chicken...

Korean Chicken from Zippy's. I am not supposed to eat this decadent juicy stuff. But I wanted to take a picture to share it with the world. Then of course, you should never waste food...

Kukaniloko...

I went to Kukaniloko in Wai'anae uka with Koa and his classmates. The sacred piko, or center of O'ahu and birthing place of the chiefs. Beautiful Kumu Snowbird taught the children the immense value of the pohaku. A light blessing female rain fell when we arrived and the children chanted in unison to the kupuna kahiko. Then it cleared up into a beautiful day. When we left after about an hour there, the children did their oli mahalo. Then the light rain fell again. It was simply awesome...
