Ancient game resembling checkers, played with pebbles placed in even lines on a stone or wood board called papa kōnane. Little white pieces of coral and black pebbles. It was said that King Kamehameha was an excellent player sometimes beating his opponent in one move. Early visitors noted that King Kamehameha would sit long hours playing the game. Some liken the strategy to chasing and cornering your enemy in battle. Some equate it to the Ilāmuku chasing down the chosen sacrificial victim.
