Resurrection...

On June 27th, 2012, I felt terrible. My stomach started hurting and my insides felt nauseated and queasy. I decided to leave work that morning and although offered a ride home, my hard head didn’t want to bother anyone so I decided to walk the mile and a half home.

About a mile into the walk, I started having trouble breathing, sweating profusely, dizzy and having abdominal pain. I thought I was having a heart attack in front of Zippy’s Restaurant. I sat down on the sidewalk and called 911. I was collapsing and talking out loud to Jesus to please save my life as tears streamed down my face. I truly felt the World was closing in and this was how my life was going to end. On the sidewalk in front of Zippy’s. I was never so happy in my life to hear an ambulance siren or see the ambulance turn the corner onto King Street.

This is just an update to all of my beautiful friends...thank you very much for all of the love, caring, prayers, concern and other positive thoughts sent my way over almost two months of the most difficult situation.

I'm home now...after ending up in the Intensive Care Unit of Queens on June 27th, in critical condition with failing heart, lungs, kidneys and pancreas...I was given a 40% chance of survival which I found out only recently. I have no memory of the ICU stay but I know many visited me. I am humbly grateful. I know many others wished to see me too but respected the privacy and overwhelming situation for my wife and family, as well as my risk for infection from outside sources according to the 10 Doctors on my surgery team. Nothing like being unconscious on life support, naked, pooping on yourself and having your dear friends come see you...the doctors and nurses and all staff were so caring and loving...and kind... I can never thank them enough... I have no pride or shame anymore...you lose it quickly in an extended hospital stay...my beautiful sister Nalani stayed by my side and tended to me... I can never repay her...while my courageous wife and boys battled the most intense and trying times...I left my body at times, Angels visited me, and I fought demons in my head on the medication...

I was released out of Queens in July after an almost three week stay...spent ten days at home where I got dehydrated, and my blood thinning medicine from blood clots, made my blood too thin, I ended up in the ICU again at Queens and ended up having surgery for my pancreas. I just returned home, and my last drainage tube of three in my abdomen hopefully will be removed soon, and I am looking forward to another month of recovery and heading back to work. I miss everyone and miss being productive to help our Hawaiian Nation and this World. I'm battling physical, emotional, and psychological scars to heal myself. I have been unplugged from all electronic communication and intend to eventually respond to everyone individually who posted something to help keep my spirit alive and keep me on this Earth until my work is done. I am humbly grateful. I'll update everyone soon again. Much love and Aloha. Ke Akua pu...

Thank you for letting us know what happened to you...I'm so glad to hear you are recovering. Indeed, your voice and vision are much needed still, so it is definitely not your time to cross over, yet. Mahalo Ke Akua for your presence in our lives, and for sharing your 'ike and aloha. Looking forward to meeting you in person when you are well. I'm a member of Kumu Lake's halau, and missed meeting you at Nu'uanu this past April since I had been traveling. Best wishes to you for a long, healthy and productive life!
