Bone Eater...

I had picked up a B-Horror movie at Blockbuster. It was so-so. Some bad special effects. About a developer who is desecrating Native American burial grounds in the Southwest somewhere. And a supernatural Indian monster which exacts revenge. The best part was when the developer was informed of yet more discoveries of human remains and artifacts on his project. He told everyone to be quiet and send that crew, the only guys who witnessed the discovery, to work on "his project in Hawai'i" to keep them quiet and get them away from inquiring authorities. I almost fell out of my chair. Wonderful. I think I know which project this guy's workers are working on now. I am looking for them tomorrow. We have our own bone eaters...

I was able to spend some precious time with my beautiful sister Nalani. When I arrived at the hospice in Hilo, she was barely recognizable. So gaunt, weakened, and listless as cancer ravages her body. Her eyes were slow to meet mine as I sat on a bed next to her. As recognition set in, she grasped my hands. Today was a most reflective day. After work, I stopped by the hospital to visit with some beautiful 'ohana. Two beloved women, from Kaua'i, each profoundly beautiful and strong in their own unique way, and by Divine providence, just a few rooms apart on the same hospital floor. Both resurrected from the precipice of death and facing intense life decisions moving forward. It was so healing for me to spend time with them both. To hold their hands. To kiss their lips, face and foreheads. To reassuringly caress their arms. To intently pray for Divine healing and an abiding comforting presence. Understanding deeply myself the precarious balance of Life. The most beautiful moment was to look into each of their eyes, deeply, lovingly and knowingly. To profess my Love for each of them.
