Manewanewa...

In the old days. When someone died. Hawaiians expressed their profound grief in many ways. One was through ho'omanewanewa. Acts of unusual grief. Such as tattooing the tongue. Painful and permanent. I have already tattooed my heart with your name. Painful. Permanent. Indelible ink on my soul. Only Ke Akua can remove it now. But He will leave it there for now. Because He knows that it will help me to thrive and persevere in the dark days ahead...
