Pink...

Image
Looks like the Pink Pirates are strategizing a full-frontal assault...

Rain...

Image
I believe in spiritually cleansing rain. Sometimes it is a beautifully gentle blessing of uplifting spirit. Sometimes it is a mourning sadness which pervades the sky. Like when Ke Ali'i Pauahi passed from this life. It rained for days if not a whole week. I think the sad rain consists of the tears of the ancestors and angels who cry because the human race loses another beautiful loving and giving spirit. A spirit so desperately needed to end suffering. And if you truly love mankind. You would be sad too. Even in Heaven...

Mystery...

Image
Either this woman is attempting to have someone photograph her with a plume of volcanic smoke appearing to come from her mouth. Or she is kissing her ghostly lover...

Reflection...

Image
I have been doing a lot recently. And I mean a lot...

The Blues...

Image
Looks like the Blues got it going on...

Tribute...

Image
In the old days, when ali'i or dignitaries, or the Queen herself, visited the various remote villages spread out across the land. In lieu of the kahili, or feather standard, the kanaka would sometimes grab long ti leaf stalks in the shape of kahili and hold them to honor the visiting ali'i...

Bone...

Image
Dad is giving me ideas for tattoos. He is encouraging me to get one but suggested that I get more in shape first like this guy. He said skulls are made out of bone and bone should be rock hard. Not soft and jiggly. Maybe I won't get skulls but tattoos of waterballoons instead. I can get them in all kinds of nice colors...

Growth...

Just when you think you know a lot about yourself, life, love and others. You find out you are just scratching the surface. I have learned more about true love in the last year than I ever thought I would. And I have taken my life up two notches on the spiritual side. But I have to be careful and slow down. Acquiring too many notches too fast finds you actually crossing over to the spiritual side. I still have much to learn and much to do on this side of the veil...

Don't Worry...

Image
You traveled 5000 miles to enjoy Paradise. Don't fret. Try to enjoy yourself. Bobby will still be waiting for you when you get home. And no, Carmen won't make a move on him while you are gone. And Kerry didn't really mean to say those things about you to Kristen at lunchtime. And your brother only hid your diary. He didn't read it. And...well, honestly...it could be worse...

Project Camp...

Image
Dad caught 'Iolani school students at their colorful excursion to the Volcano. Must be graduating seniors is my guess. Savor these moments. I rarely see any of my close to 400 classmates anymore. My guess is that they rarely see me too...

Suggestion...

Image
The other morning. I had cravings for burritos. I don't know why...

More Friends...

Image
I went into the forest and made friends with all these rocks. It was great...

Friends...

Image
This is my good friend. He is a pig on Molokai. He let me pet him and feed him without ripping open my leg artery with his razor sharp tusks. That makes him my friend. I hope nobody ate him because I would like to see him again...

Companion...

It rained all weekend. I loved it. As I headed out into Manoa tonight, the sky was clear, cool and full of stars. It was breathtaking. I think it was Makali'i, the Pleiades, I saw in the distance with a beautiful white glow amidst the grouping of stars. I am not sure. I heard something large rustle in the bushes at one point. It made my heart jump and beat fast. I tried to stay calm. Too many ghost stories this weekend on Halloween specials. I did however smell a woman's perfume several times when no one was anywhere around me while I walked deep in the valley. I think it is a curious woman ghost who has taken a liking to me. The perfume smells more like something my mom or grandmother would wear rather than some new fancy scent. So it is probably an older woman. But older women are cool. Even if she is like 300 years old...

Direction...

Image
Lately the path my life has followed has been momentarily obscured by my weaknesses. But I can still see the road vividly. In my dreams. So it won't be long before I am back on my path. Probably without you this time. But don't worry. The world is a sphere. So it is only a matter of time before we meet again. As I quietly come up behind and surprise you when you have all but forgotten about me...

I went to go see high school football at Kamehameha Schools. Koa's school was playing against Elliott's school. So we sat in the middle. It was really raining hard off and on. I hadn't realized that you can bring an umbrella because I was used to Aloha Stadium's no-umbrella rule and hadn't been to many football games. So when it really started pouring down, many other people popped open their umbrellas. Others, like us, sat and got soaked. I felt foolishly unprepared. Being so early in the game, I knew that we had a long wet night ahead of us so I decided to walk down to the car and get an umbrella from the trunk. The car was very far away as we had parked in the lower school and caught the shuttle bus up to the stadium. I expected a half-hour journey to get the umbrella. I headed off by myself leaving the family behind in the bleachers huddled under jackets. When I was about a quarter of the way to my car, I came down a flight of outside stairs and noticed a man st

Cleanliness...

Image
I really don't mind you licking my face and all. I just don't know where that tongue has been...

Style...

Image
I have come to realize that some glasses look better, and are more flattering, on Elliott, than others...

Patriot...

Image
I had attended a high school football game the other week up at Kamehameha Schools. It was pouring rain. They ran through both school anthems, then Hawai'i Pono'i and the Star Bangled Banner. I had an unusual wave of emotion sweep over me during the American Anthem. My great-great-great-great-great grandfather, George, was born in 1754 and fought in the Revolutionary War to set America free from Britain. I inadvertently summoned him recently and now I think he has connected with me. That is great. I shot this American Flag in the reflected still waters of my kulaiwi, Kaua'i. With all the turmoil I have been in lately, I believe he and my Hawaiian kupuna have been hotly debating my future...

Ingredients...

I would love to see that photo she took. When you put happiness and love into what you do. It always comes out magnificently beautiful...

Nothing...

Image
I like this photo. But I have nothing to say about it. Absolutely nothing right now. And that is perfectly fine. Sometimes in life it is better to say nothing...

Risk...

Image
With the right respect and proper protocol. You can take busloads of children right to the edge of Halema'uma'u Crater and the precarious 250 foot drop into the world's most active volcano. Don't try this at home...

Noni...

Image
Hello my bitter Noni. I will admit you are pretty ugly looking. Pungently offensive as well. Pupal looking too. But you are a tremendous medicinal healer of broken bones, menstrual cramps and lots of other ailments. So in your ugliness, you have the ability to make humans healthy and beautiful. And in turn. Through our glowing appreciative zest for renewed and restored life. We make you incredibly beautiful. Truly the eye of the beholder. Remember that. It applies to much else in life...

Charmed...

Image
I am a firm believer in the power of protective charms. I have seen them in action. And the secret isn't in how you invoke them. Or what you protect against. It is simply in the intent of your heart which makes them oh so powerful...

Kaumaha...

Image
Children shouldn't be burdened with carrying the weight of the world. That is the job of adults. What kind of future, what kind of world are we leaving for the children? A legacy of grave uncertainty. That is unacceptable...

Surprised...

Image
They say that forewarned is forearmed. One look at the size of this guy's forearms and he should never ever be taken by surprise again. Never ever again...

Coconuts...

Image
The coconut bra was a popular item in the Aloha Festivals Parade. Everyone was wearing them. And I mean everyone...

Checkmate...

Image
The boys learned how to play chess. They tried to teach me. I know checkers but not chess. So I made my Knight, upon approval of the Bishop, conspire against his King to steal his Queen. Then, empowered by love, my Knight destroyed all opposing forces in a relentless three-day battle. Then I told the boys to "King Me." They obliged. I won. I think I like this game you mortal pawns call "Chess"...
