Seed Bank...

Dad and us kids collected wiliwili seeds from big mature trees up in the mountains near Palehua about 30 years ago. Now, the gall wasp has all but decimated the native wiliwili tree population. He made some lei from the seeds back then when we collected them. The rest have been safely tucked away in a few big jars. I am glad we didn't drill holes in them. They may be needed to help restock the wiliwili tree for future generations. They are more beautiful now. More than any lei we ever made from them in the past. Because of what they hold as a promise for the future...
